ART DECO DISTRICT
Enrich your visit to South Beach with a fun, cultural walking tour of the famed Art Deco district.
Miami Beach's Art Deco District is the first 20th-century neighborhood to be recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, with 800 structures of historical significance, most built between 1923 and 1943. The fanciful pastel buildings, with porthole windows, ship-like railings, sleek curves, glass blocks, shiny chrome, and gleaming terrazzo floors are prime eye candy.
Española Way was conceived by N.B.T Roney (of the Roney Plaza Hotel) in 1925 as "The Historic Village".
Though it's located in the city's Art Deco District, the area was modeled after the Mediterranean villages of Spain and France and was originally built as a meeting place by Miami Beach's wealthiest citizens. In addition to being home to many of Miami's finest, in the late 1920's it also served as the gambling destination for some of the US most notorious bad men like Al Capone who played at the Clay Hotel.
Opening in 1958, the venue is composed of four exhibition halls, two ballrooms and a concert venue.
Located in the heart of South Beach, the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) boasts over 1,000,000 square feet of flexible space, including; over 500,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space, over 100,000 sq. ft. of versatile pre-function area space and 70 meeting rooms comprised of 127,000 sq. ft. The dynamic and international City of Miami Beach is a unique, sophisticated, urban paradise, offering world-class business amenities and cosmopolitan facilities in a laid-back tropical atmosphere. Visitors of the Miami Beach Convention Center reap the benefits when they choose to meet in this city, where combining business with pleasure is as effortless as convening a conference on a waterfront terrace.
Ocean Drive is a major thoroughfare in the South Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach.
It is known for its Art Deco hotels. Ocean Drive is also the location of the famed Versace mansion, one of the most photographed houses in North America. The street is the center of the Miami Art Deco District, which is home to about 800 preserved buildings. Streamline Moderne evolved from the Art Deco style, and dominates the street.
